Eco Adventure Tours in Mexico

DAY 1 - Arrive in Morelia, Michoacan, `Queen of the Colonial Cities' and transfer to 16th century downtown hotel.

DAY 2 - Visit the soaring fir forests of Michoacan which is the wintering site of millions of Monarch Butterflies. This is definitely a memorable, magical experience.

Overnight near the sanctuary.

DAY 3 - Enroute to Patzcuaro we will pass via 'Mil Cumbres' (1000 hills). Stop at La Escalera to rappel down cliffs with a spectacular view of the valley below. Overnight in Patzcuaro.

DAY 4 - Visit the time-forgotten town of Angahuan. On horseback ascend to the top of Mexico's most recent volcanos, Paricutin (1943-1952). The horses, trails, steam shoots, heat and spectacular view all work together to make this a fabulous day. Overnight at cabins near the volcano.

DAY 5 - On our way through the desert we will stop at Los Reyes waterfall. Overnight in the cowboy town of Coalcoman.

DAY 6 - Stalactites, stalagmites, rock formations, bats and water abound at our destination this morning, the wild caves of Michoacan. Our expert guide will spend as much time as we like in these remote caverns. Overnight at La Manzanillera, an eco-lodge located on an unspoiled Pacific beach.

DAY 7 - This morning a local fisherman will take us to a small island that serves as a pelican reserve. We will snorkel from a secluded beach before returning to the mainland for a seafood lunch. Evening will find us relaxing by a pool in the fishing village of Caleta de Campos. Overnight in Caleta de Campos.

DAY 8 - A late start today will allow time to rest and enjoy the coast before heading north to the artisan town of Patzcuaro. The town square with its enticing shops, ice cream stands and relaxing outdoor cafes will be our final stop today. Overnight in Patzcuaro.

DAY 9 - Following a leisurely breakfast we will set out to climb Mount Tzirate, the third highest peak in Michoacan. Those who make it to the top are rewarded with a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view -- a thrill not to be missed! Overnight in Morelia.

DAY 10 - Transfer to bus terminal or airport in Morelia for trip home.

Moderate fitness level required
